Here’s a ‘Gingerbread House’ for ya kid!

By andrewiverson

Saturday night before I put my boys down for bed I let them know that on Sunday afternoon were were going to build a gingerbread house and decorate it.  Boy, were they excited.  They rushed off to bed and couldn’t stop talking about it.

The next day (Sunday) the boys and I went to the kitchen and pulled the box of pre-made gingerbread mix and decorations off the shelf, opened it up and were about to dive right in when I realized that the box only contained ‘Gingerbread’ mix.  Not icing, no decorations.  Sadly, I turned and showed the boys and they of course became quite upset and went off to their room.   I sat there for a second and pounded my head trying to figure out a way to get it done without all the decorations and icing.  So, I jumped online and found the recipe for gingerbread icing.   I yelled for the boys to let them know we were in business.  They came running in yelling and excited when I again realized, I was missing an ingredient.  AGAIN, the boys put their heads down and ran back to their room upset.

At this point, I decided it wasn’t worth the trouble until I could figure out a way to save the cash and ‘jerry rig’ the gingerbread house.  No dice though and well, our gingerbread making day was down the tubes.

The next morning I was driving to work and talking with God as I usually do on my way to work and about the time I pulled into work I was about to get out of the car and I quickly told God, “Well, it’d be cool if you’d show me your thinkin’ about me today”.  I left it at that and walked into work.  I opened the front door and made my way to my office and about the time I walked through my office door I saw something sitting on my desk.   I turned on all the lights, put my coat down and walked over and picked up the odd shaped triangular box sitting on my desk.  I couldn’t believe what I was looking at…   A ‘Gingerbread House’ kit with decorations!  I couldn’t believe it…

I sat there staring at it in disbelief but then finally laughed and thanked God for the gift and the rest of the day marveled at how God loves to bless us even in the smallest way possible and sometimes it’s just to let us know He’s still around and thinking about us.
